About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support Amentum Nuclear Projects’ Oak Ridge Group as a Specialty Mechanical Equipment Engineer
Perform specialty machinery design and engineering for nuclear projects
Manage scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects
Apply established quality procedures to controlled work
Create and review complex mechanical calculations
Mentor specialty mechanical engineers and designers
Communicate complex ideas to management and clients
Work primarily in an office-based secure engineering environment
Visit industrial facilities and construction job sites as required
Travel occasionally, with travel less than 10%
Work near hazardous equipment, machinery, controlled areas, and other field conditions when required

Requirements

What you’ll need

15 or more years of experience
B.S. Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
Knowledge and experience with specialized mechanical equipment
Experience with management of scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects
Ability to follow Amentum’s quality procedures
Experience working within a quality system based on ISO 9000 or NQA-1
Knowledge of machine design, selection of machine elements, and machine controls
Experience mentoring specialty mechanical engineers and designers
Ability to communicate complex ideas to management and clients
Experience creating and reviewing complex mechanical calculations
Competence using SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, and other CAD/CAE software
Competence using Microsoft Office software
U.S. citizenship required; no dual citizenship
Valid driver’s license required
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Ability to pass pre-employment background investigation and drug screening
Willingness to work overtime or outside normal hours as needed
Professional appearance appropriate for a customer-facing engineering environment
A person residing a commutable distance from the Oak Ridge, TN office is preferred
DOE Q clearance is preferred but not required
Master’s degree is a plus
