About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyse business requirements, identify technical solutions, and create comprehensive IT architecture blueprints
- Document the overall structure, components, and interactions of IT systems
- Design, develop, and implement software applications, network infrastructure, and data management systems
- Ensure systems meet performance, security, and scalability requirements
- Monitor IT system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective measures
- Ensure systems can handle increasing workloads without compromising performance or stability
- Implement security protocols, data encryption, and access controls
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and protect sensitive information
- Research and evaluate new technologies, trends, and industry standards
- Incorporate technology advancements into designs and implementations
- Communicate technical designs and project updates to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Resolve technical issues clearly and concisely
- Support ICT infrastructure design activities for a UK defence project
- Bridge business needs and technical solutions to align ICT system design with organisational goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to architect solutions to complex challenges
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate within high-performing teams
- At least 5 years’ experience designing and delivering complex IT systems, ideally within Defence or high-assurance environments
- Proven experience owning solution architecture and delivering outcomes across the full systems engineering lifecycle
- Experience working with UK MOD customers (e.g., DE&S, Defence Digital) or similar organisations
- Deep expertise in software development, network infrastructure, data management, virtualisation, and cloud computing
- Architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, UAF, or equivalent
- Modelling languages such as UML and SysML
- Experience with modelling tools such as Sparx EA or equivalent
- Strong understanding of security principles in Defence IT systems, including Secure by Design
- Familiarity with JSP 440, JSP 604, ISO 27001, and NIST
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and trends
