About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop 2D structural drawings and 3D models of complex structures
Lead and manage structural projects within multidisciplinary project teams
Develop custom designs to satisfy client requirements and complete drafting tasks on schedule and within budget
Solve drafting and design problems or coordinate solutions with engineering and management
Develop procedures to improve drafting work processes
Assist inexperienced drafters in developing drafting skills
Provide drafting team leadership on major or complex projects and specialty leadership for design, drafting, and CAD support
Lay out and assemble complete drawing packages for large projects and perform drawing checking functions
Provide technical guidance to designers and drafters; develop work plans, suggest assignments, review work, and coordinate with project management
Perform creative design, basic and independent engineering analysis, liaison, and field monitoring
Perform complex drafting assignments from computations and sketches
Evaluate design feasibility and conformance to specifications
Review drawings for accuracy and acceptability, instruct originators on corrections, and certify final drawing package completeness
Prepare sketches, maintain drafting standards, suggest standard changes, and assist with training plans
Operate CAD equipment and train employees on its use
Travel to project sites or customer meetings as required

Requirements

What you’ll need

US Citizen; vast majority of work is for government projects limiting work to US Citizens only
10 to 20 years of experience in development of 2D drawings and 3D models of structures; 20 years will be considered if they are a good match
Certification of two years training from a vocational school or two years college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering principles, plus a minimum of eight years of experience
Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the progressive experience
Working knowledge of CAE/CAD systems
Demonstrated leadership, organization, planning, communication, and problem-solving capability
Ability to lead a small team of structural designers and drafters
Proficiency in developing 2D drawings/3D models using one or more of AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Inventor, Revit, or Creo
Must take and pass a pre-employment drug and background test
Must be able to sit at a desk and work at a computer for long periods
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Occasional site visits and travel may require lifting, climbing, crawling, and use of special clothing/equipment or PPE
