About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work in a line construction or maintenance crew as a lineman in training toward Journeyman Lineman advancement over a three-year period
- Follow the Apprentice Lineman Agreement and apprentice curriculum, progressing from unenergized to energized circuits and increasing voltage levels
- Receive immediate supervision from a Lineman initially and work independently after demonstrating skill and safety
- Assemble line materials, hardware, and pole fixtures
- Climb poles and assist Linemen with services, secondaries, unenergized conductors, and higher-voltage conductors
- Perform groundwork normally performed by a Lineman
- Work alone on energized conductors up to 480 volts
- Perform less complicated work on higher voltages under immediate Lineman supervision
- Perform the full range of skilled Lineman duties during the proficiency period while accompanied by a fully skilled Lineman above 480 volts
- Perform less complex work alone on conductors of all voltages
- Work under a foreman's direct but not constant supervision to prepare for examination
- Successfully complete an oral, written, practical, or combined examination at the end of the Apprentice Program
- Adhere to safety rules and use appropriate protective equipment
- Respond to regular call-outs and maintain reliable attendance
- Use and care for company vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials
- Maintain cooperative relationships with employees and the public
- Communicate effectively in writing, orally, electronically, and with others
- Request service-wire outages from the public when necessary for work
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successfully pass the EEI C.A.S.T. Test
- Complete and pass a 3-day evaluation
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class A CDL
- Must be punctual
- Reliable attendance
- Positive attitude
- Must satisfy the 25-mile domicile requirement
- Availability for and timely response to regular call-outs
- Ability to work outdoors in weather exposure conditions, at night, and during emergency storm work
- Ability to work safely around electrical hazards, traffic, heavy materials, tools, trenches, and uneven or slippery footing
