About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work in line construction or maintenance crews as a lineman in training toward Journeyman Lineman
  • Follow the Apprentice Lineman Agreement and apprentice curriculum over a three-year period
  • Progress from unenergized circuits to energized circuits across progressively higher voltages
  • Perform work under immediate supervision initially, then independently after demonstrating skill and safety
  • Assemble line materials, hardware, and pole fixtures
  • Climb poles and assist Linemen with services, secondaries, and unenergized conductors
  • Perform groundwork normally performed by a Lineman
  • Work alone on energized conductors up to 480 volts
  • Perform less complicated higher-voltage work under Lineman supervision
  • Develop proficiency across the full range of skilled Lineman duties
  • Work on higher-voltage conductors alongside a fully skilled Lineman
  • Perform less complex work alone on conductors of all voltages
  • Prepare for examination through more difficult work under foreman supervision
  • Successfully complete an oral, written, practical, or combined examination at the end of the Apprentice Program
  • Adhere to safety rules and use appropriate protective equipment
  • Respond to call-outs and maintain reliable attendance
  • Use and care for vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with employees and the public
  • Communicate effectively in writing, orally, electronically, and with others
  • Request service-wire outages from the public when required for work

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successfully pass the EEI C.A.S.T. Test
  • Complete and pass a 3-day evaluation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class A CDL
  • Punctuality, reliable attendance, and a positive attitude
  • Must satisfy a 25-mile domicile requirement
  • Availability and timely response to regular call-outs
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, including nights and emergency storm work
  • Ability to safely work around electrical hazards, traffic, heavy materials, tools, trenches, and uneven or slippery footing
