About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct due diligence reviews of potential new generation project development sites and acquisition facilities
- Prepare diligence reports and identify and communicate environmental risks
- Interface with internal teams and project developers during planning and construction of new assets
- Scope, coordinate, and perform regulatory and permit interpretation and applicability determinations, including NSR/PSD evaluations
- Prepare and submit permit applications and modifications
- Review and comment on technical support documents and draft permits and lead agency negotiations
- Review, prepare, and submit air quality reports, notifications, and filings
- Monitor, analyze, interpret, and summarize existing and new regulations and legislation
- Provide permit and compliance support to AEP facilities
- Assist with facility compliance reviews, training sessions, and compliance audits
- Serve as an internal expert for assigned subject areas
- Build working relationships with federal and state resource agency staff
- Lead and coordinate work activities and serve as project manager for permitting and compliance work
- Develop and implement strategies for complex compliance issues
- Prioritize tasks and interface directly with regulatory agencies
- Prepare and present complex technical subjects to senior management, professional organizations, and regulatory bodies
- Monitor environmental issues affecting operations and initiate proactive regulatory and standards changes
- Develop work standards and pursue process improvements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, natural resources, ecology, or related field for Environmental Specialist levels
- Minimum of 6 years of environmental experience for Environmental Specialist Sr
- Minimum of 10 years of environmental experience for Environmental Specialist Principle
- Minimum of 18 years of environmental experience for Environmental Specialist Consultant
- Bachelor's degree in ABET-accredited engineering and 4+ years of related engineering experience, or Master's degree in engineering and 2+ years of related engineering experience for Environmental Engineer SG7
- 6+ years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 4 years with a Master's degree or PhD, for Environmental Engineer Sr
- 8+ years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 6 years with a Master's degree or PhD, for Environmental Engineer Prin
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration required for Environmental Engineer Prin unless waived by the organization's EVP
- Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime, and shift work as required
- Travel expected 10–25% of the time
- Periodic travel required
- 40 hours per week with some overtime required
- Knowledge of air permitting and compliance and state rules
- Proficiency in regulatory tracking and assigned regulatory topics
- Registration in recognized associations for environmental professionals encouraged
- ABET accreditation requirements apply to engineering degrees; acceptable non-ABET alternatives require additional graduate engineering education
