About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform complex engineering work activities and projects
- Serve as a technical leader within the assigned organization
- Analyze interrelationships between systems and component equipment
- Interpret codes and regulations and develop area standards
- Guide, direct, lead, facilitate, and coordinate the work of other engineers and external contributors
- Ensure work complies with company policies, standards, and external regulations
- Promote engineering professionalism and conduct training sessions
- Develop plans, measurable goals, objectives, requirements, and project-cost inputs
- Use CPM, PERT, flow charts, and other scheduling techniques for budgeting and planning
- Identify corrective actions when objectives are not met
- Identify and resolve routine and complex engineering problems
- Develop and present new ideas and approaches
- Prepare, review, and present complex technical reports
- Lead and facilitate meetings
- Coordinate engineering work and build consensus across disciplines
- Make decisions affecting department operations, plans, goals, and major projects
- Manage project budgets and assess impacts on AEP expenses and revenues
- Support customer-focused energy solutions at American Electric Power (AEP)
Requirements
What you’ll need- Typically 4 or more years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Alternatively, 2 years of related engineering experience with a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may satisfy the degree requirement if the candidate obtains a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Alternative: Bachelor’s degree in non-ABET engineering plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s program
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred
- Ability to interpret codes and regulations and develop relevant standards
- Proficiency with scheduling techniques including CPM, PERT, and flow charts
- Ability to manage project budgets using cost-management techniques
- Ability to analyze systems, equipment, risks, uncertain inputs, and conflicting data
- Ability to prepare and present complex technical reports to management, professional societies, and regulatory bodies
