About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee mitigation projects for defective Substation, Protection/Controls, and/or Transmission Line equipment
- Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and supervise assigned project activities
- Apply Waterfall and Agile project management principles and techniques
- Support and hold employees and contractors accountable for the AEP System Safety Process and Zero Harm environment
- Develop and manage project/outage plans, schedules, budgets, and funding reallocations
- Communicate project details and status updates; lead planning meetings, project updates, and stakeholder presentations
- Develop and manage relationships with project teams, plant and operating company staff, customers, partners, contractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Provide guidance, instruction, and training to improve designs, systems, procedures, processes, schedules, and costs
- Mentor project managers and direct sub-team project managers as assigned
- Develop and manage procurement plans and outside-service contracts, including proposals, bids, vendor selection, negotiations, and vendor performance
- Conduct and supervise project closeout processes and analyze project success and benefits realization
- Assist with organizational project management standards and manage programs as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with seven (7) years qualified experience
- Two-year Associate’s degree in the same required disciplines with nine (9) years of qualified experience
- High School Diploma/GED with eleven (11) years qualified experience
- Qualified experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, and/or comparable internal or external experience in a competitive production environment
- Demonstrated successful project management duties, business acumen, and prior responsibility for all certifying body knowledge areas
- Preparedness for specialist-level PM knowledge in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
- Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems is favorable
- PMP certification is preferred but not required
- Valid state driver’s license is required
- Effective leadership, team building, meeting management, and stakeholder communication
- Ability to apply economic analysis techniques and project management tools and techniques
- Strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment, prioritization, scope management, technical solution evaluation, and project risk management
- Contract development and management experience, including allocating risk between owner and contractor
- Ability to perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns on unstable surfaces and climbing ladders
- Ability to work at home, office, power plants, nuclear sites, and construction sites in varying conditions, with possible radiation exposure within NRC limits
- Ability to travel, typically 25% or less, with greater travel potentially required for specific assignments
- Ability to safely and effectively perform work and support AEP policies, values, principles, structure, and behavior
