About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a technical leader within the Transmission Compliance organization
  • Provide oversight and guidance for Level 2 controls and review processes
  • Lead resolution of verification issues identified through Level 2 reviews
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established requirements
  • Act as a subject matter expert for methodology adherence, equipment ratings, corrective action development, and root cause analysis
  • Lead AEP system-wide engineering activities in specialized areas
  • Lead project and development activity involving unique or highly specialized engineering applications
  • Develop, recommend, and implement plans addressing AEP system-wide issues
  • Identify and resolve highly complex company and industry problems
  • Prepare and present complex technical subjects to senior management, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, and others
  • Build teams and networks across AEP, other companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia
  • Make technical decisions affecting the AEP system, business objectives, and strategic direction
  • Develop the area of expertise as a strategic asset of the AEP system

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Engineer Principal SG9: 8 or more years of related engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program; or 6 years of related engineering experience and a Master's or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Engineer Staff SG10: 10 or more years of related engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program; or 8 years of related engineering experience and a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in non-ABET engineering plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program
  • Electrical Engineer preferred; Station background may be Mechanical
  • Preferred knowledge of or experience with substation engineering, substation equipment, and protection & control (P&C)
  • Preferred experience with compliance programs and standards, particularly FAC-008, PRC, and CIP requirements
  • Highly desirable experience or familiarity with internal controls, compliance oversight, auditing practices, and risk management processes
  • Preferred working knowledge of enterprise systems and applications, including IPS, VeriFact, Vault, TPS, and SharePoint
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred, unless waived by the organization's EVP
