About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage one or more intermediate and/or complex projects or a program area of projects in a matrix team environment
- Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and communication throughout project lifecycles
- Initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close projects safely, efficiently, economically, and with balanced risk
- Develop and coordinate project and outage plans, schedules, budgets, tools, and staffing
- Manage project costs and reallocate funding as needed
- Lead planning meetings, project/outage updates, and complex stakeholder presentations
- Communicate project details, status updates, written reports, and oral briefings
- Develop relationships with project teams, operating company staff, customers, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and regulators
- Supervise direct reports and mentor project and assistant project managers
- Coach and develop team members on project management skills and techniques
- Develop and manage procurement plans and outside-service contracts, including bids, vendor selection, negotiations, and performance oversight
- Manage project closeout and analyze achievement of objectives and benefits
- Manage programs as assigned and align projects with AEP project management standards
- Promote continuous improvement and optimize delivery of value
- Represent AEP with industrial customers, vendors, and regulators as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with seven (7) years qualified experience; or two-year associate’s degree in the same disciplines with nine (9) years qualified experience; or High School Diploma/GED with eleven (11) years qualified experience
- Qualified experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, and/or comparable experience
- Demonstrated successful project management duties, business acumen, and prior responsibility for all certifying body knowledge areas
- Preparedness for specialist-level PM knowledge in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
- Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems is favorable
- PMP certification is preferred but not required
- Valid state driver’s license is required
- Ability to lead teams and projects to successful conclusion
- Effective communication, listening, strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment, conflict management, scope management, contract development and management, and project risk management skills
- Ability to perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns on unstable surfaces and climbing ladders
- Ability to work at AEP locations including homes, offices, power plants, nuclear sites, and construction sites
- Ability to travel, typically 25% or less, with greater travel potentially required for specific assignments
