About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Install, commission, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electric distribution system equipment
  • Commission, test, troubleshoot, and maintain distribution reclosers, capacitor banks, voltage regulators, and associated controls
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions in the field
  • Coordinate field activities with Dispatch, Distribution Operations, and local Service Departments
  • Support distribution automation and system reliability initiatives
  • Perform equipment inspections, testing, and operational verification
  • Document commissioning results, troubleshooting findings, and maintenance activities
  • Assist during outages, restoration efforts, and emergency response situations
  • Travel regularly to substations, distribution circuits, customer service territories, and other field locations
  • Maintain communication with System Operations/Dispatch, Distribution Operations, and local Service Departments
  • Analyze equipment performance, identify operational issues, and provide recommendations for corrective actions
  • Work with engineering, operations, and construction personnel to support system improvements and restoration activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related utility industry work experience as an alternative
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Ability to walk rights of way over various terrain in adverse conditions
  • Ability to carry and handle telescopic measuring sticks and switching sticks weighing 11 pounds
  • May be required to use a brush axe or machete to clear brush
  • Ability to work independently in field environments
  • Flexibility to travel as needed
  • Experience with distribution automation, protective relaying, SCADA communications, control systems, and electrical testing equipment is highly desirable
