About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide engineering support for Reliability applications, processes, and associated data and solution integrity
  • Support State Estimator functionality in the SPP and ERCOT regions and other reliability tools used in Transmission Operations
  • Monitor and address data and model quality issues
  • Maintain acceptable solution quality for real-time system reliability
  • Model continuous capital and overhead work in the State Estimator
  • Troubleshoot and analyze EMS powerflow solution iteration results
  • Work with applications used in daily electric-grid reliability and operations
  • Assume modeling responsibilities for an assigned area according to AEP's capital and O&M work plan
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation for the System Control Center
  • Coordinate work activities and provide training and guidance to lower-level employees
  • Develop input for routine project cost forecasts and use scheduling techniques for budget and planning activities
  • Initiate corrective action when project objectives are not met
  • Develop, review, and present technical reports, improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses
  • Network with peers, identify stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and build consensus
  • Make decisions within established policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program for Engineer Associate SG6
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program plus two or more years of related engineering experience for Engineer SG7
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program plus four or more years of related engineering experience for Engineer Senior SG8
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may qualify for Engineer SG7
  • For Engineer Senior SG8, two years of related engineering experience plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Acceptable alternatives include a non-ABET engineering Bachelor's degree plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program
  • Engineering Technology Bachelor's degree holders must obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license to satisfy the degree requirement
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is encouraged and preferred
  • PE registration is encouraged and preferred for Engineer Senior SG8
  • Electrical Engineering background strongly preferred
  • Experience in Energy Management Systems, system reliability, grid operations, planning, and modeling is a plus
  • Ability to participate in 24x7 on-call support and respond when on-call
  • Knowledge of engineering theory and analytical techniques
  • Ability to analyze system interrelationships, business processes, risks, budgets, utility regulation, and financing
  • Ability to prepare, review, and present technical reports
  • Ability to use scheduling techniques such as CPM, PERT, and flow charts
