About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage intermediate or complex facilities projects in a matrix team environment
  • Lead project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closeout
  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and supervise project and outage activities
  • Apply Waterfall and Agile project management principles and techniques
  • Enforce AEP safety processes, policies, and Zero Harm standards for employees and contractors
  • Develop and manage project/outage plans, schedules, budgets, tools, staff, and funding reallocations
  • Communicate project details and status updates through meetings, presentations, written reports, and oral communications
  • Build relationships with project teams, operating company staff, customers, partners, contractors, vendors, suppliers, regulators, and industry peers
  • Provide guidance, instruction, training, and continuous-improvement recommendations for designs, systems, procedures, processes, schedules, and costs
  • Mentor and supervise project managers, assistant project managers, and assigned direct reports
  • Develop procurement plans and manage outside-service contracts, including RFPs, bid evaluation, vendor selection, negotiations, and vendor performance
  • Conduct project closeout and analyze achievement of objectives and realization of benefits
  • Manage programs and align projects with AEP project management standards and governance requirements
  • Represent AEP with industrial customers, vendors, and regulators as assigned
  • Perform light physical duties and work at varied AEP locations and site conditions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years qualified experience for Senior or 7 years for Principal
  • Two-year associate’s degree in the same disciplines with 7 years qualified experience for Senior or 9 years for Principal
  • High School Diploma/GED with 9 years qualified experience for Senior or 11 years for Principal
  • Two years of experience as a PROJECT MANAGER (Grade 7) for Senior, or two years as a PROJECT MANAGER SENIOR (Grade 8) preferred for Principal, unless demonstrated competencies justify a shorter timeline
  • Qualified experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, or comparable production-environment experience
  • Progressively increasing project management, business acumen, and responsibility across certifying body knowledge areas
  • Knowledge of construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
  • Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems is favorable
  • PMP certification preferred but not required
  • Valid state driver's license required for Senior; valid state driver's license for Principal
  • Effective leadership, team building, meeting management, communication, listening, economic analysis, business acumen, strategic planning, risk assessment, prioritization, conflict management, scope management, contract development and management, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns on unstable surfaces and climbing ladders
  • Ability to work at homes, offices, power plants including nuclear facilities, and construction sites
  • Ability to work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure at nuclear power sites within NRC limits
  • Travel typically 25% or less, with greater travel potentially required for specific assignments
