Senior Structural Engineer – Principal

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform complex structural engineering work for electric generating facilities
- Engineer and design concrete, steel, masonry, wood, sheet piling, and fiber-reinforced-plastic structures and components
- Complete all aspects of projects from initiation through completion
- Review engineering designs, calculations, and drawings prepared by consultants
- Conduct infrastructure inspections and assessments at electric generating facilities
- Complete inspection reports for ductwork, stacks, bridges, tanks, river cells, and other components
- Interpret codes and regulations and develop relevant standards
- Provide guidance, training, and direction to other engineers
- Lead and coordinate engineering activities across teams and external organizations
- Prepare and present complex technical reports to management, professional societies, and regulatory bodies
- Lead and facilitate meetings
- Resolve complex engineering problems and develop solutions
- Manage project budgets using cost-management techniques
- Support outage and plant needs through travel to power stations
- Work in power-station environments involving extreme temperatures, hazardous fumes and chemicals, loud noise, machinery, and outdoor conditions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Four or more years of related engineering experience plus a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program for Engineer Senior
- Two years of related engineering experience plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program for Engineer Senior
- Eight or more years of related engineering experience plus a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program for Engineer Principal
- Six years of related engineering experience plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program for Engineer Principal
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology requires obtaining a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in non-ABET engineering plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged/preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to conduct presentations and participate in panel discussions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Working knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD is preferred
- Proficiency with structural modeling and design software
- Experience with STAAD or RISA is preferred
- Ability to work some overtime and adjust the normal work schedule
- Valid state driver's license must be possessed and maintained
- Ability to travel up to 20%, including day trips and overnight trips
- Ability to wear required power-station PPE, including hard hat, eye and hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes
- Respirator fit test may be required
