About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage intermediate or complex projects in a matrix team environment
- Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and communication across project phases
- Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and supervise project activities
- Apply Waterfall and Agile project management principles and techniques
- Support accountability for the AEP System Safety Process and Zero Harm environment
- Manage project or outage plans, schedules, budgets, costs, and funding reallocations
- Communicate project details and status updates through meetings, presentations, reports, and other communications
- Develop relationships with project teams, plant and operating company staff, customers, partners, contractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Provide guidance and training to improve designs, systems, procedures, processes, schedules, and costs
- Mentor project managers and supervise sub-team project managers as assigned
- Develop and manage procurement plans and outside-service contracts
- Prepare requests for proposals, evaluate bids, select vendors, participate in negotiations, and oversee vendor performance and quality
- Conduct and supervise project closeout processes and analyze project success and benefits realization
- Support adherence to AEP project management organizational standards
- Manage programs as assigned
- Work safely across AEP locations, including distribution, transmission, generation, telecom, construction, and nuclear infrastructure sites
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with five (5) years qualified experience
- Or two-year associate’s degree in the same required disciplines with seven (7) years of qualified experience
- Or High School Diploma/GED with nine (9) years qualified experience
- Two (2) years of experience as a PROJECT MANAGER (Grade 7) OR demonstrated competencies, knowledge and skillset through achieved results in a shorter timeline
- Qualified experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, and/or comparable experience in a competitive production environment
- Progressively increasing project management and business acumen and responsibility for most certifying body knowledge areas
- Preparedness for journey level PM knowledge in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, risk management, and related areas
- Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems is favorable
- PMP certification is preferred but not required
- Valid state driver’s license is required
- Effective leadership, team building, and meeting management skills
- Ability to lead teams and projects to successful conclusions
- Effective communication and listening with stakeholders
- Economic analysis techniques and business acumen for project decision-making
- Working knowledge of project management tools and techniques
- Strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment, and prioritization
- Proficiency in scope management, technical options, project risks, and mitigation methods
- Proficiency in contract development and management
- Ability to perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns on unstable surfaces and climbing ladders
- Ability to work at homes, offices, power plants, nuclear sites, construction sites, and other AEP locations
- Ability to travel, typically 25% or less, with greater travel possible for specific assignments
