About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support AEP fiber optic, microwave, and P.25 800MHz radio transport systems
- Participate in a shared 24x7x365 on-call rotation with six other engineers
- Provide break/fix support for AEP transport network systems
- Remotely support project-based field change-control work for deploying fiber optic, microwave, and P.25 radio systems
- Follow AEP change-management standards, including peer reviews for field transport-impacting changes
- Maintain ServiceNow asset records, monitoring systems, process documentation, timekeeping, goal performance, status reporting, and change control
- Manage project tasks, time scheduling, and meetings
- Collaborate with work groups, departments, and corporate entities
- Provide cross-training to employees as assigned
- Facilitate meetings and initiate corrective action when project objectives are not met
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field; or associate degree in a listed field plus 2 years of relevant work experience; or HS diploma/GED plus 4 years of relevant work experience
- 2 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above
- Valid Driver's License is Required
- Intermediate-level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles
- Competency in analytical techniques for moderately complex assignments
- Understanding of pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems, and business processes
- Ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment
- Ability to analyze and recommend business-process enhancements
- Ability to collaborate across work groups, departments, and corporate entities
- Ability to provide cross-training
- Ability to initiate corrective action when project objectives are not being met
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to extrapolate beyond known facts to reach logical conclusions
- Ability to listen to and satisfy internal and external customers
- Initiative in developing job knowledge and technical skills
- Occasional travel required
- Ability to participate in a rotating 24x7 support schedule
