About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Model transmission system topology, impedance, and facility ratings for lines, stations, and transformers across medium, high, and extra-high voltages
- Use AEP-internal modeling databases
- Fulfill system-modeling requests from Engineering and Operations personnel through ServiceNow
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to model planned projects and represent the future transmission system
- Perform activities related to NERC Compliance standards
- Apply engineering theory and basic analysis techniques to resolve routine technical problems
- Assist higher-level engineers with complex problems and analyses
- Coordinate work activities to resolve routine engineering tasks
- Prepare reports and technical papers
- Contribute to team decision-making and communicate technical information clearly
- Work flexible, non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program for the entry-level position
- Bachelor's degree in engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program for Grade 7
- For Grade 7, typically 2 or more years of related experience applying engineering technology principles
- A bachelor's degree in engineering technology may satisfy the requirement with a certified Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Alternative: non-ABET bachelor's degree in engineering technology plus a master's degree or PhD in engineering technology from a university with an ABET-accredited bachelor's program
- Fundamental understanding of relevant standards, codes, and regulations
- Ability to work outside standard business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and work non-traditional hours
- Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is encouraged and preferred
- Professional Engineer license is required for the specified engineering-technology degree pathway
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to work with internal and external personnel
