About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct and provide leadership and guidance to the AEP Generation, Distribution and Building Services Major Projects Organizations
  • Ensure successful completion of a portfolio of projects with total budgets up to $5 billion and investments ranging from $5 million to over $1 billion
  • Ensure projects are initiated, planned, executed, monitored and controlled, and closed safely, efficiently, economically, and with balanced risk
  • Build relationships and communicate with internal and external customers, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and industry peers
  • Direct teams managing multifaceted, performance-based contracts and contractors
  • Resolve technical and commercial project issues
  • Develop and oversee policies, practices, procedures, and programs supporting Company objectives
  • Direct project management organization through scoping, staffing, planning, scheduling, budgeting, and performance measurement reporting
  • Establish strategic project planning, scheduling, permitting, licensing, engineering, design, procurement, and construction programs
  • Reinforce safety programs and adherence to safety policies and procedures
  • Oversee schedules, cost estimates, cash flows, capital expenditures, project activities, and budgets
  • Support Capital Excellence and Continuous Improvement vision, strategy, and execution
  • Develop and utilize Project Directors and Project Managers through assignments, training, rotations, and personal development plans
  • Mentor others
  • Lead long-range budget and forecast development, estimate and cash flow bases, projection change management, and stakeholder communication

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business related field of study with fifteen (15) years of qualified experience
  • Three (3) years of experience as a PROJECT DIRECTOR is preferred, OR demonstrated competencies, knowledge, and skillset through achieved results in a shorter timeline
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of qualified experience
  • At least eight (8) years supervising others
  • Experience in two or more of: major construction projects, project management, commissioning, project controls, fossil plant operations, and labor negotiations
  • Progressive levels of responsibility and accomplishment
  • Highly proficient level of business acumen
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills
  • At least eight (8) years of human resource administration with supervisory experience, including formally developing others
  • Proven strength in strategic thinking and planning
  • Proven strength in project risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Highly developed conflict management, effective listening, delegation, and decision-making skillsets
  • Demonstrated strength in developing individuals in their current role as well as the next one
  • Willing and capable to address poor performance
  • Ability to challenge differing opinions effectively
  • High-energy and tenacity in facing difficulty and challenges
  • Work hours and travel as required
  • Ability to work independently or interdependently with minimal direct supervision
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred
