About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate and maintain highly complex property claims
- Determine liability and secure information
- Review coverages and arrange appraisals
- Settle claims with a high degree of competency and independence
- Investigate origin and cause of high-exposure claims
- Contact insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts, special investigation units, adjusters and public personnel
- Check for prior claims and recognize environmental exposures
- Participate in High Damage Reviews to address coverage issues and exposure
- Handle 1st-party and 3rd-party claims under multiple policy types and endorsements
- Conduct on-site inspections and evaluate damages
- Negotiate claims with insureds, claimants, attorneys and public adjusters
- Respond to customer inquiries, make decisions and close files as needed
- Interpret policies, leases, by-laws, declarations, articles and contract coverages
- Provide claim process and status information and redirect questions as appropriate
- Mentor less experienced adjusters and serve as a subject matter expert
- Report to a Large Loss Senior Manager
- Participate in other assignments, duties or projects as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrated ability to handle 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims across operating territories
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively handle complex claims
- Extensive knowledge of policies and endorsements coverages
- Successfully applied knowledge of each phase of the claim handling process
- Advanced Xactimate experience required
- 5 or more years’ experience handling field property personal lines claims required
- Prefer someone who has handled claims over $50,000
- Valid driver's license required plus an acceptable driving record
- Obtain state specific property casualty claims licensing as required
- Ability to travel up to 50%; catastrophe travel up to 75% as applicable
- Ability to perform field work in outdoor, hazardous, noisy, poorly ventilated, low- or high-temperature environments and confined spaces
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps and poles
- Ability to move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
