About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate and maintain highly complex property claims
  • Determine liability, secure information, review coverages, arrange appraisals and settle claims
  • Investigate origin and cause of high exposure claims by contacting insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts and other parties
  • Participate in High Damage Reviews to address coverage issues and exposure
  • Handle 1st party and 3rd party claims under multiple policy types and endorsements
  • Conduct on-site inspections, evaluate damages and negotiate claims
  • Respond to customer inquiries, make decisions and close files
  • Interpret policies, leases, by-laws, declarations, articles and contract coverages
  • Provide claim process and status information to all parties
  • Make independent decisions and recognize when assistance is needed
  • Mentor less experienced adjusters and serve as a subject matter expert
  • Work primarily in the field, spending 80% of time (4+ days per week) directly interacting with customers
  • Occasionally travel to an office for team meetings, trainings and culture events
  • Report to a Large Loss Senior Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5 or more years’ experience handling field property personal lines claims required
  • Advanced Xactimate experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to handle 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims across operating territories
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively handle complex claims
  • Extensive knowledge of policies and endorsements coverages
  • Successfully applied knowledge of each phase of the claim handling process
  • Valid driver's license required plus an acceptable driving record
  • Obtain state specific property casualty claims licensing as required
  • Ability to perform field work, including ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and confined spaces
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%, with catastrophe travel up to 75% as applicable
  • Preferably located in Maryland or Pennsylvania
  • Sponsorship will not be considered unless specified in the posting
  • Successful background checks and signing a non-disclosure agreement required as contingencies of the offer
