About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead execution of the Community Engagement pillar of the Sustainable Business Framework
  • Develop and maintain multi-year strategic roadmaps, priorities, and business cases for community-focused initiatives
  • Identify intersections between community needs, customer challenges, and enterprise objectives
  • Translate research, benchmarking, stakeholder insights, and trend analysis into recommendations for leadership
  • Cultivate relationships with nonprofit organizations, industry associations, academic institutions, and community stakeholders
  • Evaluate partnership opportunities advancing community resilience, housing accessibility, and future customer needs
  • Develop partnership strategies combining enterprise capabilities with philanthropic and community investments
  • Represent American Family in external collaborations and industry conversations
  • Lead initiatives supporting customer and community resilience, including climate adaptation and disaster recovery
  • Research emerging risks, trends, and opportunities affecting future community and customer needs
  • Evaluate innovative approaches creating community impact and business value
  • Establish and manage KPIs for community engagement outcomes and strategic progress
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate performance metrics to internal stakeholders
  • Develop executive presentations, strategic recommendations, and annual reporting
  • Lead Community Engagement Council activities and facilitate stakeholder collaboration
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews, needs assessments, and cross-functional workshops
  • Influence without direct authority to advance complex cross-functional initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data
  • Demonstrated experience developing business strategy by working directly with executive and senior management as either an internal or external management consultant
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating business trends and developing new business programs and strategies in response
  • 5+ years of experience in strategy, sustainability, community engagement, corporate responsibility, nonprofit partnerships, social impact, public affairs, or related fields
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing complex stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic recommendations supported by research and data
  • Strong verbal, written, and executive presentation skills
  • Experience in insurance, corporate sustainability, ESG, community investment, or resilience planning
  • Knowledge of housing, climate resilience, disaster recovery, or community development ecosystems
  • Experience working with universities, nonprofit organizations, industry collaboratives, or public-sector partners
  • Ability to work a minimum of 10 days per month from the office in a hybrid role
  • Candidates should reside within approximately 35–50 miles of Madison, WI or Boston, MA
  • Offer contingent on applicable background checks

  • Up to 10% travel
