About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop an understanding of the business, corporate culture and structure
- Support defined Home Central subregion, product, or project work under an analyst or manager
- Clarify questions, audience, scope, metrics, assumptions and limitations for assigned work
- Contribute to process improvement, deep-dive analysis, automation, monitoring and workflow documentation
- Improve the quality, consistency, repeatability and efficiency of teamwork in collaboration with analysts, business partners and adjacent Product Analytics teams
- Evaluate data views, outputs and business trends; identify notable movement or discrepancies; validate results; and draft commentary or recommendations
- Research competitive, market, product performance and operational signals, separating sourced facts from interpretation
- Use approved AI and analytics tools, including Claude Code, Copilot and Everyday AI, for research, synthesis, query or code assistance, workflow improvement, quality checks, automation and communication
- Participate in a 10 to 14 week summer internship program from mid-May through August
- Attend New Employee Orientation in person at the Madison, WI headquarters or another American Family Insurance core location, with some sessions potentially delivered virtually
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be in student status at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship, graduating August 2027 or later
- Must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD
- Major/program must align with the internship role
- Preferred majors or coursework include data analytics, economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, information systems, computer science, business, or other quantitatively grounded programs
- Preferred experience includes analytical reasoning, curiosity, motivation and follow-through, clear written and verbal communication, attention to accuracy, learning agility, and constructive collaboration
- Helpful differentiators include SQL or other data-query exposure, visualization experience, hypothesis or root-cause thinking, process improvement, business or insurance context, and responsible AI use with validation
- Offer is contingent on applicable background checks
- Offer is contingent on signing a non-disclosure agreement
- Sponsorship will not be considered; candidates requiring visa sponsorship cannot be considered
