About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work in the field handling homeowner property field claims in the Detroit, MI metro area
- Report to the Property Claim Manager
- Investigate claim origin and cause by contacting insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts, special investigation units, adjusters and public personnel
- Handle 1st party and 3rd party claims under multiple policy types and endorsements
- Conduct on-site inspections, evaluate damages and negotiate claims
- Identify complex issues and seek assistance as needed
- Interpret policies, leases, bylaws, declarations, articles and contract coverages
- Respond to customer inquiries, make decisions and close files
- Provide parties with claim-process information and status updates
- Travel to office locations occasionally for team meetings, training and cultural events
- Complete other assignments and participate in projects as required
- Spend approximately 80% of working time in the field
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be located within the Detroit, MI metro area; also open to Pontiac, Southfield and Mt. Clemens areas
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service
- Demonstrated experience handling 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims across operating territories, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated experience handling moderately complex claims, or equivalent experience
- Solid knowledge and understanding of policies and endorsements related to casualty coverages, or equivalent knowledge
- Solid knowledge and understanding of each phase of the claim handling process, or equivalent knowledge
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Obtain state-specific property casualty claims licensing as required
- Familiarity and experience with Xactimate preferred
- Ability to travel up to 50%; catastrophe duty up to 75% as applicable
- Ability to work in outdoor, hazardous, noisy, poorly ventilated, low- and high-temperature, and small or enclosed environments
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and similar structures
- Ability to move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
- Successful completion of applicable background checks
- Signing a non-disclosure agreement for proprietary information, trade secrets, and inventions
