About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and execute complex catastrophe risk analyses
- Transform catastrophe model results and exposure data into actionable insights
- Partner with cross-functional teams to address business challenges and support strategic decision-making
- Influence portfolio strategy, risk appetite, and business planning through data-driven recommendations
- Serve as a subject matter resource on catastrophe risk
- Support event response efforts
- Drive continuous improvements in analytics, reporting, and risk management processes
- Perform catastrophe modeling analyses, including data input assessment, model setup, model execution, result extraction, and loss analytics
- Communicate catastrophe model fundamentals, including hazard, vulnerability, and financial model components
- Develop analytical tools, reports, and data using geospatial analysis techniques
- Explore natural hazard data for catastrophe exposure dashboards, product, pricing, and underwriting
- Assist with rate filings and DOI objection responses
- Develop automation to monitor U.S. catastrophe peril events daily and identify potential enterprise impact
- Evaluate catastrophe management software and models and explore industry best practices and earth science technologies
- Provide catastrophe-related insights and recommendations to team members and partners
- Participate in selecting research tools and technologies, designing research processes, and developing new methodologies
- Research and maintain awareness of industry best practices and business strategies
- Introduce innovative ideas and approaches to develop the business
- Complete other assignments or participate in projects as requested
- Report to a CAT Risk Senior Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3-5+ years of experience preferred
- Experience with programming languages such as R or Python
- Strong analytical skills
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service
- Solid experience with catastrophe management software and catastrophe peril models
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of natural catastrophe risk, its application to insurance, and catastrophe modeling
- Proficiency in programming languages suitable for database access, scripting, and statistical analysis
- Solid understanding of geospatial software tools and data
- Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively
- Demonstrated experience using large amounts of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data
- Demonstrated experience making independent decisions and in project management methodologies, practices, and techniques
- Solid knowledge of managing data at scale using data summarization, query, and analysis software and tools
- Candidates should reside within approximately 35-50 miles of Madison, WI 53783 or Boston, MA 02110

- Successful completion of applicable background checks
