About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and execute projects and partnerships with the USDA Forest Service in Idaho
- Collaborate with American Forests and USDA Forest Service staff
- Oversee program, field, safety, and logistics operations
- Manage reforestation and forest resilience partnerships
- Advance forest restoration projects, plans, partnerships, and agreements
- Oversee reforestation activities on National Forest Service lands, including planning, unit layout, contracting, planting, release, restoration, and monitoring
- Coordinate field data collection, analysis, and adaptive management
- Maintain knowledge of silviculture, reforestation, forestry, and natural resource management
- Build relationships with agencies and regional stakeholders
- Supervise seasonal and permanent employees, including timesheet, leave, and performance processes
- Lead recruitment, hiring, and training as needed
- Collaborate on grant and agreement administration, budgets, invoices, payment requests, match documentation, and modifications
- Support contractor relationship management and oversight
- Assist with meetings, conferences, events, public presentations, site visits, and field tours
- Report to the Director, Northern Rockies and potentially supervise up to five direct reports
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in forestry or natural resources with at least three (3) years of experience; or a Master’s degree in forestry or natural resources with at least two (2) years of experience
- Field forestry and/or reforestation experience
- Experience planning and implementing forest management actions on federal lands
- Experience conducting fieldwork and implementing field-based projects
- Experience supervising teams, ideally in field-based and remote environments
- Working knowledge and experience in project and partnership management
- Strong organization, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Possession of a state forestry license and/or Society of American Foresters Certified Forester certification preferred
- Current First Aid certification or willingness to be sponsored in obtaining it
- Experience with GPS and GIS, including AGOL, Field Maps, and Survey123
- Experience in contract oversight and administration preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to speak Spanish preferred
- Ability to travel frequently and work in field conditions, including lifting materials up to 40 lbs.
