About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide phone-based financial aid support and counseling to students attending American Public University or American Military University
  • Conduct inbound phone discussions to advise and educate students on Federal Student Aid
  • Ensure students are packaged with funding to access courses and pursue degree completion
  • Solve problems and use basic math to review financial aid package information for correct processing
  • Use financial aid and student databases to research and assist students and parents through the financial aid cycle in real time
  • Meet daily duties within established Service Level Agreements and adapt to staffing and business needs
  • Meet department quality and productivity metrics
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Advising, and Student Support departments
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of university products and services
  • Support the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated customer service experience
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
  • Associate's degree required
  • Solutions-oriented attitude with demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands with minimal supervision
  • High level of telephone etiquette and professionalism
  • Basic math skills
  • General proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Must maintain eligibility to access the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), including no prior or current student loan default and no future access issues
  • Must comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
