About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Generate and lead execution of requirements to design, test, and support flight instrumentation systems
  • Develop aircraft instrumentation systems for NASA research vehicles
  • Support TTC data processing systems during instrumentation checkout and ground tests
  • Coordinate with mission control room personnel on displays, data cycle maps, calibration files, and run files
  • Lead system or subsystem teams through design, implementation, design reviews, safety analysis, and documentation approval
  • Analyze project objectives and requirements and develop project plans
  • Support project safety reviews
  • Participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, hazard documentation, and mitigation implementation
  • Review project instructions, requirements, specifications, procedures, objectives, equipment, technical problems, and possible solutions
  • Set up and conduct tests or studies of systems, components, or concepts under research test conditions
  • Record test procedures, results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations
  • Create reports and documentation describing study and test results
  • Analyze results against requirements, specifications, and test objectives
  • Follow safety practices and NASA ISO AS9100 procedures
  • Report status to the Senior Technical Lead and/or Task Focal Point in standardized format by due dates

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physical Science with at least 3 years of experience, OR Master's or PhD degree in Engineering or Physical Science
  • Must be a US citizen with ability to secure and maintain a security clearance
  • Must pass drug testing
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and multi-task work environment by prioritizing work and coordinating task/project schedules
  • Ability to manage and decompose requirements in specific technical areas
  • Experience in one or more of: telemetry data systems, data processing, data storage systems, or system test and validation
  • Knowledge of strain gages, accelerometers, pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, and pitot-static systems
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems such as Teletronics
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or equivalent for electrical drawings
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Work in accordance with NASA ISO AS9100 procedures and applicable regulatory requirements
