About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide engineering and technical support for marine vessels, shipboard machinery, and associated mechanical systems
  • Perform design evaluation, documentation development, propulsion analysis, and support modernization initiatives
  • Provide technical support for the design, development, documentation, and evaluation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment
  • Support engineering efforts involving power supply and propulsion systems
  • Research, develop, and assess ship propulsion systems, including diesel engines, gas turbines, diesel-electric systems, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, bearings, seals, noise and vibration considerations, and dynamic positioning system interfaces
  • Apply engineering principles and technical analysis to support system design requirements and vessel modernization
  • Design, develop, and evaluate the operation of shipboard propulsion machinery
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications
  • Review and develop technical data packages
  • Provide oversight for the development of machinery arrangements
  • Support and conduct trade studies related to propulsion system configuration and associated components
  • Apply knowledge of ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations
  • Support engineering efforts aligned with applicable design, safety, and compliance standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 6+ years of experience developing ship propulsion systems, propulsion control systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and trade studies involving propulsion configurations and associated components
  • Proficiency in Python, Data bricks, Power Apps, and MTU DiaSys
  • Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems and shipboard mechanical equipment
  • Experience supporting the design, development, and evaluation of vessel machinery systems
  • Ability to develop and review technical documentation, specifications, and data packages
  • Understanding of machinery arrangements, propulsion integration, and associated engineering analyses
  • U.S. Citizenship required to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirable
