About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work with and mentor other engineers and designer/drafters to design, develop, analyze, and support fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater for underwater launchers
- Develop Technical Data Packages (TDPs) using free body diagrams, stress calculations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in ANSYS
- Support designers/drafters by creating 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings in SolidWorks
- Select design materials based on stress calculations and commercial or military specifications
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of drawings and TDPs
- Interface with customers and government sponsors
- Support possible testing of designs onboard submarines and in test facilities, with some foreign travel possible
- Conduct research of submarine construction drawings using the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS) System
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering
- Ability to maintain a DoW Secret Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
- Physically capable to conduct ship checks on United States Nuclear Submarines
- Comfortable in relatively confined spaces
- Capable of climbing vertical ladders (20’–25’) within the submarine
- At least three (3) years professional experience doing stress analysis with hand calculations
- At least three (3) years professional experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation
- Professional experience with Microsoft Office
