About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and direct pipe crews installing underground utility systems
- Interpret and execute work according to project plans, specifications, grades, and company standards
- Coordinate daily crew activities, manpower, equipment, and materials
- Conduct pre-task planning and daily safety meetings
- Monitor trench safety, excavation procedures, utility locating requirements, and shoring practices
- Collaborate with Superintendents, Project Managers, Surveyors, and other trades
- Track production quantities and provide daily labor, equipment, and material reports
- Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with project specifications
- Maintain timecards, daily logs, production reports, and safety records
- Promote a positive team environment and uphold Ames Construction’s values
- Install underground utilities including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, and associated structures safely and efficiently
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 5 years of underground utility construction experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience leading pipe crews or serving in a foreman-level role
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and practices
- Familiarity with heavy equipment
- Knowledge of trenching, excavation, grading, and utility construction methods
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Ability to work with power and non-power tools
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, crouch, kneel, climb, and periodically lift up to 50 lbs
- Positive attitude and excellent motivational skills
- Time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills
- Good attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies
- Ability to work extended hours, early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays as required
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment, moving machinery, traffic, and construction hazards
