About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead Amgen’s corporate social media strategy, channel roadmap, and operating model
- Advise on audience behavior, platform trends, digital culture, AI, and reputational risks
- Translate audience insights into content, channel, and engagement strategies
- Drive social-first storytelling, content strategy, and paid/organic distribution
- Integrate social media into enterprise communications, executive thought leadership, and major corporate initiatives
- Lead the employee social ambassador program and strengthen cross-channel audience engagement
- Establish social media policies, governance, and compliance standards
- Oversee channel operations, community management, moderation, and risk escalation
- Support issues management and crisis communications through social insights and rapid response
- Lead social listening, competitive intelligence, and audience insights
- Measure performance and optimize strategy using data-driven recommendations
- Drive responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies for social media and communications
- Build social media capabilities through training, coaching, and best practices
- Manage agency, platform, and technology partners, including budgets and performance
- Lead complex cross-functional initiatives across Corporate Affairs and global stakeholders
- Report to the Senior Director, Social & Digital Media within the External Engagement team
- Partner across Corporate Affairs and with Law, Regulatory, Compliance, Privacy, Security, agency and technology partners
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctorate degree and 3 years of social media, digital communications, marketing, corporate communications, or related field experience OR Master’s degree and 5 years of experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience OR Associate’s degree and 12 years of experience OR High school diploma / GED and 14 years of experience
- 3 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
- Progressive experience in corporate social media, digital communications or integrated communications, including complex social media programs and initiatives in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare or another highly regulated, reputation-sensitive industry
- Experience developing and executing enterprise or global social media strategy, governance and channel operations for a large, matrixed organization
- Experience with organic and paid social media, major social platforms, audience targeting and segmentation, distribution and amplification strategies, community management, brand safety, accessibility and evolving platform requirements
- Experience partnering with Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, Privacy and Security teams to establish social media policies, review workflows, risk controls and escalation protocols
- Experience using social listening, audience intelligence, competitive intelligence and cultural insights
- Experience developing measurement frameworks and translating performance data into insights and recommendations
- Experience leading or supporting employee advocacy and executive social media or thought leadership programs
- Understanding of the creator and influencer ecosystem
- Issues and crisis communications experience, including real-time monitoring, escalation and coordination
- Working knowledge of SEO, generative engine optimization (GEO) and digital discovery behaviors
- Ability to responsibly apply artificial intelligence and emerging technologies with attention to governance, accuracy and risk
- Ability to build organizational capability and lead through influence
- Experience managing agencies, technology partners, budgets and multiple complex workstreams
- Exceptional writing, editing, presentation and strategic counsel skills
- Highly self-directed, curious and proactive, with sound judgment
