About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the ongoing development and evolution of the General Medicine therapeutic area strategy
- Translate therapeutic area ambitions into disease and franchise priorities, portfolio implications, investment priorities and strategic actions
- Maintain a forward-looking view of science, standards of care, patient and customer needs, competitive dynamics and Amgen’s portfolio
- Assess differentiated opportunities, investment priorities and areas to deprioritize
- Ensure asset and program decisions remain connected to broader therapeutic area and franchise strategy
- Partner with Business Development and Commercial BD on external innovation priorities and opportunity assessments
- Serve as Commercial strategic lead and representative for early pipeline projects and programs
- Partner with Research, Development, Medical and other functions to define patient populations, unmet needs, treatment context, differentiation requirements, product profiles and evidence needs
- Identify strategic and commercial questions early enough to influence research, development and investment choices
- Assess scientific and technical success and develop recommendations regarding progression, investment, partnering or discontinuation
- Lead cross-functional teams in creating target product profiles and development strategies
- Lead New Product Planning and early commercial assessments, including market and competitive assessment, patient segmentation, positioning, forecasting and commercial opportunity assessment
- Drive cross-functional opportunity assessments across development stages to inform indication prioritization, sequencing and patient impact expansion
- Partner across Research, Development, Medical, Competitive Intelligence, Business Analytics and Insights, Commercial and other functions to support strategic decisions
- Integrate scientific, clinical, customer, competitive, epidemiological, market research, real-world evidence, forecasting and analytics inputs
- Develop clear recommendations despite uncertainty and influence effectively without formal authority
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing and/or commercial experience, OR Master’s degree and 7 years of marketing and/or commercial experience, OR Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of marketing and/or commercial experience
- Experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, life sciences strategy consulting or a related field
- Experience solving complex strategic and commercial problems
- Experience in New Product Planning, pipeline commercial strategy, portfolio strategy, commercial development, strategy consulting, forecasting, market research, analytics, business development or related disciplines
- Experience evaluating early-stage assets, disease opportunities or product concepts
- Ability to integrate across functions
- Therapeutic area experience in cardiovascular disease, bone health, or other General Medicine areas preferred
- Strong scientific and clinical learning agility
- Ability to engage credibly with scientific and clinical experts and translate technical information into strategic implications
- Strong qualitative and quantitative strategic judgment
- Ability to structure ambiguous problems, identify decision-critical assumptions, evaluate tradeoffs and develop recommendations despite uncertainty
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and build trusted cross-functional partnerships
- Advanced degree such as an MBA, PhD, PharmD, MD, MPH or other relevant scientific or business discipline preferred
