About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide strategic direction and oversight to the MSL team
- Coach and develop MSLs, evaluate performance, and provide constructive feedback
- Foster collaboration, retention, engagement, growth, development, and work-life balance
- Identify MSL team training needs and collaborate with training partners on plans and timelines
- Ensure compliance standards and timely completion of CRM, expense reports, and training modules
- Lead the team through organizational change
- Partner with medical leadership to develop Field Medical strategy, tactics, and Scientific Engagement Plans
- Elevate field medical insights to refine strategy and tactics
- Identify tools and resources needed to support Scientific Engagement Plans
- Oversee peer-to-peer scientific engagement activities with Opinion Leaders, community healthcare providers, and Population Health Decision Makers
- Develop key-account engagement strategies with internal stakeholders
- Guide MSLs in communicating clinical value, outcomes, and economic data to Population Health Decision Makers
- Support the MSL team in achieving goals through impactful strategies and tactics
- Guide understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and Amgen’s business landscape
- Represent the MSL team to senior leadership
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide field observations and insights
- Support congress activities
- Participate in and lead project teams supporting Field Medical strategies and tactics
- Model and ensure cross-functional collaboration between field medical and field commercial teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctorate degree & 4 years of Medical Affairs experience OR Master’s degree & 8 years of Medical Affairs experience OR Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of Medical Affairs experience
- 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
- Territory includes NY, CT, MA, RI
- Preferred: Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D. or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered)
- Preferred: Seven years of industry experience in Scientific/Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company
- Preferred: Seven or more years focused on clinical practice, clinical research, or medical research
- Preferred: Experience in a medically related field, including postdoctoral training, residencies and/or fellowships
- Preferred: 3+ years in a medical science liaison role in a biotech or pharmaceutical company
- Preferred: Current experience in Scientific Affairs or Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company
- Preferred: Three years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
