About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support implementation, governance, standards, training, and performance processes for Amgen’s Construction Contractor Safety Program
- Provide technical leadership across capital projects
- Promote consistent contractor and subcontractor compliance
- Partner with project leaders, EHS, engineering, and external companies to manage complex construction safety risks
- Lead development, implementation, and continuous improvement of construction contractor safety program elements, systems, standards, and training
- Participate in capital project leadership teams and advise management on safety performance, priorities, operations, and scheduling
- Establish governance processes for tracking safety performance through meaningful metrics
- Use safety metrics and trends to recommend and implement improvements
- Identify and implement technology solutions, including artificial intelligence tools, for construction safety management
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with regulations, standards, and company requirements
- Manage EHS prequalification and requalification of design and construction contractors and subcontractors
- Review project-specific safety plans and verify systems and resources for safe execution
- Ensure contractor orientation and training, and train project engineers and managers on construction safety expectations
- Coordinate with project supervisors and designated safety roles
- Manage construction safety service-provider or project-supervisor contracts
- Review and approve construction activity risk assessments and method statements, including STAs and JHAs
- Facilitate safety performance reviews, field inspections, and audits
- Track and address documented non-conformances
- Prioritize the safety agenda based on schedules, project load, risk profile, and emerging conditions
- Compile, analyze, and report safety statistics and performance information to management
- Participate in incident investigations and support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned
- Escalate incidents according to the incident management SOP
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctorate degree and 2 years of Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related EHS discipline experience; OR Master’s degree and 6 years of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience; OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience; OR High school diploma/GED and 12 years of experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing allocation of resources
- 10 or more years of construction safety experience supporting large capital projects
- Knowledge and application of safety regulations and construction technical standards, principles, and techniques
- Ability to solve complex safety problems and develop practical, compliant solutions
- Ability to work independently under minimal direction and determine an appropriate approach
- Ability to travel approximately 50%, including regional, domestic, or international travel
- Experience managing construction safety in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry
- Experience supporting contractor safety governance across multiple capital projects, sites, or regions
- Experience using technology and data analytics to strengthen construction safety performance
- Professional safety certification such as CSP, CIH, or equivalent is preferred
