About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage assigned components of U.S. federal income tax compliance, including return schedules, estimated tax payment calculations, and supporting workpapers
- Coordinate data collection and issue resolution with Tax, Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, business partners, and third-party service providers
- Prepare and review assigned domestic components of Amgen’s income tax provision under ASC 740
- Support current-year and extended tax rate forecasts, provision-to-return analyses, and balance sheet and cash flow explanations
- Assist with the review of assigned state income tax returns and related apportionment data
- Review selected U.S. business license and annual report filings as needed
- Support federal and state tax audits by gathering documentation, preparing responses, and tracking information requests
- Maintain assigned tax reporting documentation and support collection of entity and other information used in global reporting
- Identify and implement process improvements using automation, data analytics, and AI-enabled tools
- Review domestic tax compliance work prepared by the Internal Delivery Tax Team and provide feedback
- Support transition of selected compliance activities through documentation, training, and handoffs
- Research technical tax issues and complete special projects as needed
- Report to the Director of Tax Reporting
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctorate degree OR Master’s degree and 2 years of accounting or finance experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of accounting or finance experience OR Associate’s degree and 8 years of accounting or finance experience OR High school diploma / GED and 10 years of accounting or finance experience
- CPA license preferred
- Five or more years of experience in public accounting or a corporate tax function within a large multinational organization
- Working knowledge of U.S. federal and state income tax laws and regulations
- Experience preparing or reviewing federal income tax returns and related compliance workpapers, including consolidated return experience
- Experience with ASC 740 income tax accounting, including deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, and tax provision support
- Experience with OneSource Income Tax Compliance and Tax Provision software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise systems
- Experience using automation, data analytics, or AI-enabled tools to improve tax processes, with sound judgment regarding data quality, controls, and review
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other complex multinational industry
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate effectively across functions, global locations, and time zones
- Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, organization, and project-management skills
- Sound judgment and commitment to quality and accountability
