About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own major parts of the Azure and Kubernetes platform running Amperon's product, data pipelines and AI agents
  • Set technical direction for platform areas and lead multi-month programs from design through cutover
  • Run and evolve AKS clusters for production, workflow and AI/agent workloads using Karpenter, Cilium network policy, workload identity, External Secrets, Helm and ArgoCD
  • Drive Terraform infrastructure-as-code through Atlantis, including provider upgrades, drift reconciliation, module design, guardrails, GitHub Actions runners and build pipelines
  • Operate MySQL Flexible Server and self-managed ClickHouse with replication, failover, backup and restore, capacity planning and safe upgrades
  • Design isolated, auditable environments for agentic workloads and MCP services, including egress controls, identity, observability and self-service deployment paths
  • Evolve observability using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana and Tempo, with alert rules managed as code
  • Identify and implement Azure cloud-cost savings
  • Participate in on-call rotation, lead incident response and blameless postmortems, and support data engineering, data science and product teams
  • Write design documents, review code, mentor engineers and document systems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years in infrastructure, platform or site reliability engineering, including several years at a senior level owning production systems
  • Track record of leading multi-month infrastructure programs end to end: design doc, stakeholder alignment, phased rollout, cutover and cleanup
  • Deep, hands-on Kubernetes experience in production, ideally on a managed offering such as AKS, EKS or GKE, including networking and network policy
  • Strong Terraform skills on a large codebase, with GitOps-style workflows such as Atlantis or ArgoCD
  • Production experience with at least one major cloud; Azure strongly preferred, with deep AWS or GCP experience also acceptable alongside willingness to learn Azure
  • Experience operating relational or analytical databases in production, including replication, upgrades and recovery
  • Security-focused practices including least privilege, identity-based access, secrets management and network isolation
  • Solid observability practice covering metrics, logs, traces, alerting and SLO thinking
  • Comfortable writing Python and shell for automation and tooling
  • Clear written communication across design docs, PRs and asynchronous threads
  • Candidates must be based in UK, EU or US time zones and provide at least 3 hours of daily overlap with US Central Time
  • Participation in an on-call rotation
