Collaborate with the Editor and Program Manager to revise and develop each writing assignment to completion
Conduct in-depth historical research to support each assignment
Write content for record descriptions, personalized stories based on historical records, and blog posts
Ensure assignments follow style guidelines, maintain consistent quality and tone, comply with department goals and values, and demonstrate audience awareness
Ensure facts and information are supported by thorough research
Complete writing assignments by submission deadlines
Provide status updates and reports to the Editor and Program Manager as requested

Requirements

What you’ll need

MUST HAVE experience with Native American genealogy research and writing
Specialized experience in Native American history and genealogy
Ability to create accurate, high-quality content for Collection Descriptions and StoryScout
Understanding of genealogical research and cultural nuances
Degree in history, English, journalism, or related field preferred, or equivalent professional writing experience
Experience writing about historical events
Experience writing about sensitive topics
Background in African American studies, Latin American studies, Native American studies, Asian American studies, American studies, British studies, French studies, European studies, or Australian studies
Excellent writing/editing skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to interpret and implement guidelines and standards
Ability to adhere to a style guide and tone
Strong internet and research skills

Background in family history
