About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete legal and factual research
- Prepare motions, legal memos, resource guides, position statements, model laws, and other written work products
- Assist attorneys in responding to crimes against animals
- Assist in broadening the ability of animal law to secure just outcomes for animal victims
- Provide investigatory and trial-level assistance to criminal justice professionals
- Produce amicus curiae briefs
- Support legislative efforts to improve animal cruelty laws
- Educate criminal justice practitioners about criminal law and animal law
- Craft legal arguments concerning criminal jurisprudence and animals
- Participate in organizational networking and mission-related activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current 2L (or part-time program equivalent) or LLM student at an ABA accredited law school
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- Sincere interest in animal protection
- Superior legal research and writing skills, including ability to tailor voice and style to various audiences
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work cooperatively in a mission-driven, team-oriented environment
- Willingness to accept a variety of assignments within animal law
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and remotely
- Ability to use discretion with confidential and emotional work
- Access to a computer with internet and Microsoft Suite
- Familiarity with animal law, criminal law, or both is preferred
