About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform daily clinical work in the outpatient/primary care setting in accordance with the Ambulatory Medical Assistant Scope of Practice
- Assist physicians and other staff under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician
- Perform phlebotomy and specimen processing as directed by the delegating provider, depending on location
- Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, intradermal skin testing, topical medications, ophthalmic drops and nasal spray
- Perform ECGs, place Holter monitors and download telemetry data, depending on location
- Work with other staff to maximize clinic flow
- Intervene appropriately in emergency situations
- Document data and changes in the Electronic Medical Record
- Provide administrative assistance, including scheduling patient visits and basic check-in/check-out activities
- Obtain measurements, patient history and other intake information
- Stock and maintain the clinic area and order supplies as needed
- Apply chemical disinfection, high-level disinfection and sterilization protocols as required
- Direct High Level Disinfection scope cleaning according to defined processes, depending on location
- Complete trainings and education, including Healthcare Provider CPR
- Perform other assigned job functions
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma required
- Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program
- 0–3 years of relevant clinical experience
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred but not required
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
- Excellent communication/listening skills
- Substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other allied health and medical center personnel
