About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Respond to non-emergency calls for service
  • Assist with motorist aids, vehicle lockouts, and towing situations
  • Enforce County/City ordinances and assist with animal control ordinance enforcement
  • Assist deputies at accident scenes with traffic control
  • Assist with traffic and radar surveys
  • Schedule and transport squad units for maintenance
  • Respond to citizens’ questions and information requests in person and by phone
  • Write incident reports
  • Provide escorts throughout the Blaine Human Services Center
  • Patrol on foot and monitor the facility’s interior and exterior
  • Respond to medical emergencies and routine security requests within the facility
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma required
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license or ability to obtain
  • Successfully pass a thorough background investigation
  • Possess or be able to obtain within six months of hire American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
  • Current student enrolled in a law enforcement program preferred
  • Previous related experience such as security, law enforcement, or customer service preferred
  • Previous experience writing reports or business documents preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform varied physical activity, including bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment
  • Regular lifting of 0–25 lbs. and occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to use computers, phones, standard office equipment, and public safety equipment
  • Ability to travel between work sites by county vehicle and/or personal vehicle
  • Successfully pass required pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and/or other qualification checks as applicable
