About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care for inmates' psychological, physical, and mental health needs
  • Order, administer, and/or distribute prescribed medications
  • Prepare written records and reports and update treatment and procedure charts
  • Implement nursing care and medical orders safely and responsibly
  • Maintain medical records related to screening, treatment, and care during incarceration
  • Consult with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate individual care plans
  • Provide clinical care across intake, sick call, chronic care, and emergency situations
  • Coordinate external healthcare services
  • Provide on-call coverage according to facility policies and standards
  • Deliver skilled assessments, medication management, accurate documentation, and clear communication
  • Work a minimum of four shifts per month, including one weekend, across an around-the-clock jail operation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program
  • At least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Minnesota
  • Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation
  • Successfully pass applicable pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and/or other qualification checks
  • Previous correctional health or similar experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills preferred
  • Ability to work in a correctional institution and interact with uncooperative, angry, or hostile clients
  • Ability to perform varied physical activity, including bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking, and standing
  • Ability to regularly lift 0–25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work with computers, phones, standard office equipment, and medical equipment
  • Ability to work around bodily fluids, infectious agents, chemicals, airborne particles, fumes, and other hazards
  • Compliance with Anoka County Sheriff's Office tattoo policy
