About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care addressing inmates' psychological, physical, and mental health needs
  • Order, administer, and/or distribute prescribed medications as directed
  • Prepare written records and reports and update treatment and procedure charts
  • Implement nursing care and medical orders safely and responsibly
  • Maintain medical records related to screening, treatment, and care provided during incarceration
  • Consult with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate individual care plans
  • Provide care across intake, sick call, chronic care, and emergency situations
  • Coordinate external healthcare services
  • Provide on-call coverage consistent with facility policies and standards
  • Communicate effectively with patients and the healthcare team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program
  • At least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Minnesota
  • Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation
  • Previous job-related experience in Correctional Health or similar field preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills preferred
  • Availability for 8- and 12-hour shifts across a 24/7 facility
  • Minimum of 4 shifts per month, including 1 weekend per month
  • Successfully pass required pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and/or other qualification checks as applicable
  • Ability to perform required physical activities, including lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Compliance with Sheriff's Office tattoo policy
