About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct and indirect nursing care addressing inmates’ psychological, physical, and mental health needs
- Assess inmates and correctional youth during intake/booking, sick call, chronic care, medical unit visits, and emergencies
- Review prescribed medications and coordinate/administer medication and treatment
- Arrange additional healthcare, including dental, medical, psychological, laboratory, and other treatment
- Implement nursing care and medical orders safely and responsibly
- Maintain medical records for health screening and treatment provided during incarceration
- Train correctional officers and staff on medical procedures
- Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and care providers
- Provide care across a 24/7 jail environment using 8- and 12-hour shifts
- Support facility safety and operations through skilled assessments, medication management, documentation, and communication
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis
- Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota
- Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation
- Successfully pass required pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and/or other qualification checks as applicable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills preferred
- Previous job-related experience in Correctional Health or similar field preferred
- Ability to perform varied physical activity, including bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and handling/carrying medical equipment
- Regularly lift 0–25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a correctional/detention environment and potentially encounter uncooperative, angry, or hostile clients
- Ability to work with computers, phones, standard office equipment, and medical equipment
- Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays
- Compliance with Anoka County Sheriff's Office tattoo policy
