About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide operational support to ANSTO and commercial waste projects
  • Perform business-as-usual activities across Remote Handled Waste, Contact Handled Solid Waste, Contact Handled Liquid Waste, Waste Characterisation, and Decontamination
  • Collect, transport, store, process, decontaminate, and characterise radioactive waste material
  • Ensure services comply with licence conditions, plans and arrangements, and ANSTO’s Safety Management System
  • Use hot-cells, manipulators, SCADA systems, trucks, pumping systems, liquid waste treatment systems, corrosive chemicals, and decontamination machinery
  • Band 4: prioritise, plan, and coordinate resources for day-to-day weekly work
  • Band 4: ensure completion of work scheduled for the week
  • Band 4: rotate across relevant Radiation Services operational areas to meet operational needs
  • Band 4: resolve complex problems at external client sites

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • All applicants must be Australian citizens
  • Security and pre-employment medical assessment required for appointment
  • Ability to safely handle and transport commercial radioactive and hazardous waste
  • Ability to perform collection, transportation, storage, processing, decontamination, and characterisation of radioactive waste material in accordance with licence conditions, plans and arrangements, and ANSTO’s Safety Management System
  • Ability to use hot-cells and manipulators
  • Ability to use SCADA systems
  • Ability to drive trucks
  • Ability to use pumping systems for site effluent and liquid waste treatment systems
  • Ability to work with corrosive chemicals and machinery to decontaminate items
  • Band 4: maintain competence across all required operational areas and rotate across relevant Radiation Services areas
  • Band 4: ability to resolve complex problems at external client sites
