  • Select and size prime movers, define paralleling topology, redundancy, fuel systems, and emissions controls
  • Set day-one and expansion plant sizing strategies
  • Characterize data center loads for external generation partners
  • Model generation response to large-scale ML training loads and set acceptance criteria
  • Develop temporary- and bridging-generation strategies for early site energization
  • Ensure generation designs meet applicable NFPA, fuel, emissions, and permitting requirements
  • Size and specify battery energy storage systems for ride-through, step-load buffering, and power-quality support
  • Define microgrid topology, operating modes, islanding, black-start, load-shedding, and resynchronization
  • Specify and drive implementation of microgrid-controller requirements and SCADA/EPMS integration
  • Define protection and control requirements for generation and storage
  • Lead utility interconnection applications, studies, agreements, ISO/RTO processes, and IEEE compliance
  • Own power quality at the point of interconnection and design mitigation measures
  • Run or review load-flow, short-circuit, transient-stability, motor-starting, step-load, and electromagnetic-transient studies
  • Lead technical due diligence on generation, BESS, and microgrid-controller vendors
  • Define technical performance terms for energy-services agreements
  • Review design packages, submittals, shop drawings, and deviation requests
  • Support commissioning, factory/site acceptance testing, and integrated systems testing
  • Manage concurrent generation and microgrid scopes across multiple sites
  • Contribute to generation and interconnection design standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in power generation, microgrids, battery energy storage, or utility interconnection
  • Substantial experience with on-site or distributed generation for mission-critical, data center, or large industrial loads
  • Deep hands-on experience with reciprocating engine gensets, gas turbines, or fuel cells
  • Experience with generation sizing, paralleling, fuel systems, and emissions controls
  • Understanding of thermal generation asset classes and stable islanded operation
  • Understanding of battery energy storage sizing, inverter selection, UL 9540, UL 9540A, and NFPA 855
  • Understanding of microgrid architecture, islanding, resynchronization, black-start, load-shedding, and generation dispatch
  • Fluency in IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, utility interconnection requirements, and ISO/RTO processes
  • Experience running or critically reviewing power-system studies using ETAP, SKM, PSS®E, PSCAD, or EasyPower
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Direct experience with generation OEMs, BESS integrators, generation-as-a-service providers, or utilities
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is valued but not required
  • Clear communication with technical peers, utilities, regulators, and non-specialist stakeholders
