About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and scale AI agents supporting Sales and Customer Service teams
- Design agent reasoning, tools, and data access
- Own evaluation, guardrails, and observability for production agents
- Build and operate scalable production-grade systems
- Tackle technical challenges across backend, infrastructure, data flows, and AI/ML pipelines
- Write clean, pragmatic, well-tested, maintainable code
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to shape solutions
- Champion testing, observability, and quality improvements
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar
- Influence technical direction and architectural decisions
- Regularly ship meaningful production improvements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Cape Town-based and able to commute to the Central Business District
- Happy to be onsite at least 3 days per week
- Fully eligible to work in South Africa
- Experience in a scale-up or fast-growing product environment
- Strong backend engineering skills in Go, Java, Python, or similar
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and performance
- Experience with CI/CD, modern deployment practices, and cloud infrastructure
- Comfort working with ambiguity and evolving requirements
- Bias toward action and shipping value quickly
- Collaborative mindset and ability to influence beyond your code
- Bonus: exposure to AI/ML systems, marketplaces, logistics, pricing, or e-commerce
