About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage structural engineering projects from initiation through design, documentation, permitting, and construction-phase services under a Project Executive
- Own day-to-day project execution, including scope, fees, budgets, schedules, staffing, deliverables, coordination, client communication, and performance
- Establish work plans, schedules, milestones, staffing plans, deliverables, and priorities
- Monitor financial performance, labor expenditures, remaining fees, staffing projections, percent complete, and anticipated project needs
- Identify scope changes, additional services, client requests, and conditions affecting fees, schedules, or resources
- Lead project teams by setting priorities, assigning work, providing direction, monitoring progress, and coordinating engineering and BIM/modeling efforts
- Provide technical leadership for structural analysis and design and resolve complex engineering, modeling, detailing, constructability, and coordination issues
- Review calculations, analysis models, drawings, specifications, and engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance
- Lead coordination with architects, MEP/FP consultants, contractors, fabricators, and other project participants
- Review multidisciplinary documents to identify structural impacts, conflicts, coordination requirements, and project risks
- Lead external meetings and communicate project status, design requirements, decisions, action items, schedule considerations, and required information
- Serve as primary day-to-day contact for clients and project stakeholders
- Anticipate and address technical, coordination, staffing, schedule, financial, scope, and execution risks
- Manage construction-phase services, including RFIs, submittals, field conditions, design revisions, contractor questions, and related engineering activities
- Coordinate QA/QC reviews and ensure comments are resolved before deliverables are issued
- Guide Project Engineers and Associate Project Managers and support their technical and professional development
- Communicate project performance, design decisions, client concerns, scope changes, schedule risks, and financial concerns to the Project Executive
- Support business development and client retention through pursuits, client discussions, fee proposals, scopes, and project planning
- Participate in Technical Advisory Groups and improve engineering standards, design tools, technical resources, workflows, and lessons learned
- Identify and implement improvements to project management, engineering, QA/QC, and project delivery processes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering from an accredited university
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
- Typically seven or more years of relevant structural engineering experience with progressively increasing technical and project management responsibility
- Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure required
- Demonstrated experience independently managing structural engineering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams
- Advanced knowledge of structural analysis, structural systems, load paths, and design of steel, concrete, masonry, foundations, and other structural systems
- Advanced working knowledge of applicable building codes, ASCE 7, and structural material design standards
- Strong proficiency with structural analysis and design software
- Ability to review and evaluate complex structural analysis models, calculations, and engineering work
- Proficiency reading and interpreting architectural, structural, MEP/FP, and other discipline construction documents
- Understanding of project scope, contracts, fees, budgets, schedules, staffing, additional services, resource planning, and project financial performance
- Ability to independently develop and manage project work plans, establish priorities, assign resources, monitor progress, and adjust project execution
- Ability to lead engineers and BIM/modeling team members through design, documentation, coordination, and construction phases
- Ability to lead external project meetings and coordinate with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and other project participants
- Ability to identify project risks, evaluate alternatives, make informed decisions, and escalate significant issues
- Ability to identify scope changes and potential additional services and communicate their impacts
- Strong client service and relationship-management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
