About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead AMC’s volunteer finance operations and related financial reporting under the direction of the Controller
- Administer banking activities and delegated banking relationships across multiple financial institutions and platforms
- Serve as primary finance liaison for volunteer units, including chapters, camps, and Adventure Travel
- Guide volunteer treasurers on policies, procedures, budgets, investments, banking, grants, donations, reporting, and compliance
- Coordinate quarterly meetings and finance-related communications
- Lead annual volunteer unit budgeting and coordinate annual volunteer unit audits
- Maintain quarterly investment reports and annual chapter cash analyses
- Coordinate invested reserve fund requests and transfers
- Monitor donation activity and payout reporting
- Coordinate intercompany billing and remittances
- Oversee Pinkham Notch Visitor Center accounting operations supporting AMC’s New Hampshire lodges and huts
- Oversee non-grant accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, aging, and delinquent-account follow-up
- Record and reconcile revenue from payment platforms and fundraising systems
- Support monthly and annual close and financial statement audits through journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules
- Prepare financial reports for management, volunteers, auditors, and other stakeholders
- Administer financial applications and banking platforms, including access, onboarding, training, and support
- Monitor finance email accounts and respond to inquiries
- Provide financial and operational support for special initiatives and cross-functional needs
- Lead and develop team members through expectations, coaching, feedback, evaluations, and capability development
- Foster a collaborative, transparent, accountable, and continuously improving team culture
- Support digital transformation initiatives and implement financial tools, banking services, and reporting enhancements
- Maintain and improve financial procedures, documentation, and finance manuals
- Support Finance and other departments with emerging priorities and additional duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience; nonprofit experience preferred
- Experience in banking administration, treasury functions, and credit card platforms
- Advanced Excel proficiency
- Experience with a major accounting system; Sage Intacct preferred
- Strong service orientation and ability to guide volunteers and staff with varying levels of financial and systems experience
- Ability to collaborate across Volunteer Engagement, Information Technology, Finance, and operational teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing business needs
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
