About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support and enhance the overall Trail Operations program
  • Communicate with staff, A.T. partners, agencies, A.T. Clubs, contractors, course providers, participants, and instructors
  • Learn and follow USFS and NPS saw programs and policies
  • Distribute information about Saw Trail Advisory Group outcomes, safety notices, and agency guidance
  • Enter and receive purchase orders and draft contracts
  • Ensure proper utilization of grant codes for expenditures
  • Assess sawyer certification and training needs
  • Coordinate course logistics, estimates, scheduling, invoicing, and payments
  • Perform data management and quality assurance in Salesforce ATC’s central database and the USFS Sawyer Database
  • Maintain contact records, manage training events, accept registrations, maintain certification records, and produce reports
  • Schedule virtual and in-person meetings
  • Fulfill sawyer certification document and materials commitments
  • Manage reimbursement and PPE requests and place PPE purchases
  • Support development of a business plan for safety training outside the Cooperative Management System
  • Monitor the program budget and communicate variances
  • Maintain and follow Standard Operating Procedures
  • Support coordination of saw strike teams after natural disasters, if needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of federal policy and management guidelines and the technical details of saw program management, sustainable trail management, and necessary requirements preferred
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • Experience using databases, project management, or data visualization tools preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively engage a variety of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with the Appalachian Trail, hikers, and volunteers preferred
  • Experience in retail, inventory management, and order fulfillment preferred
  • Commitment to mission-driven work and fostering meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, and organizational partners
  • Ability to perform field work in remote backcountry conditions, rugged terrain, and varied weather
  • Reliable high-speed internet access for remote work
  • Personal vehicle for work-related travel is expected
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or move light to moderate weights
  • Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required
