About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own architecture and solution design of modern, scalable software systems across customer engagements
  • Lead domain discovery and modelling with customers
  • Establish bounded contexts, ubiquitous language, and shared business-engineering understanding
  • Shape and challenge business and technical architecture, service boundaries, domain models, dependencies, and integration strategy
  • Ensure domain models are reflected in software and keep code, architecture, and business understanding aligned
  • Advise customers on decisions, trade-offs, and technical direction at a senior level
  • Work hands-on across the stack, particularly on React-based applications
  • Establish and document architectural decisions, patterns, and standards
  • Improve development processes, testing strategy, and delivery cadence
  • Help reduce technical debt and improve maintainability and evolvability
  • Collaborate with platform and cloud engineers on end-to-end solutions
  • Mentor engineers and grow DDD and architectural capability
  • Contribute to Appvia’s engineering strategy, architectural patterns, DDD practices, standards, and AI-assisted engineering approaches

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
  • British Passport or ILR
  • Resided in the UK for the last 5 years
  • No criminal record or financial irregularities
  • Deep practical experience applying Domain Driven Design, including strategic and tactical patterns
  • Experience leading collaborative domain discovery with business stakeholders using Event Storming, domain storytelling, or similar
  • Strong architectural judgement and experience owning solution design on complex systems
  • Proven delivery of domain-derived microservice architectures
  • Ability to understand and constructively challenge customer business architecture
  • Confidence communicating, defending, and documenting architectural decisions, such as ADRs or C4
  • Strong hands-on full-stack development skills
  • Experience improving engineering effectiveness through testing strategy, automation, and developer tooling
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development approaches
  • Experience mentoring engineers and developing domain-driven and architectural thinking
  • Consulting mindset
  • Experience in regulated or public sector environments is beneficial but not required
